Mercedes Benz E Class

The newly improvised Mercedes E Class Benz is offered in different trim levels in the form of a midsized sedan, coupe, convertible or a wagon. With its varying designs come varying engine levels. The sedans have the two basic luxury and sport type models that feature a 17 inch alloy wheel, traditional grille and a separate hood ornament. The sports version has slightly different wheels with aluminium pedals and a three-spoke steering instead of the Luxury four-spoke design. Both models come with the standard LED headlights and taillight accents, adaptive suspension dampers, a sunroof, dual zone automatic climate control and 10-way power front seats. The Premium packages add a rear-view camera to the sedan which is already a standard on the wagon model. Other additional features include the split folding rear seats, COMAND with navigation, voice controls and satellite radio. The sound system, is a 14-speaker Harman Kardon. For the Sedan and Wagon there is a Lighting package offering adaptive LED lights and automatic high-beam headlight control and a hands-free feature that enables you to open or close the trunk lift gate with a mere wave of the foot near the rear bumper. The Lane Tracking Package is available with a blind spot monitor for the safety system that includes cruise control, lane keeping assistance, and blind-spot monitoring with forward collision warning system. The Coupe and Convertible model also offers a Premium 2 package with additional Packages of Lane Tracking and Lighting. The E63 models can also be outfitted with carbon-ceramic brakes.

The diesel E250 is assigned to the BlueTEC sedan, V6 E350 to the sedan and wagon, turbocharged V6 E400 to all but the wagon, V8 E550 to the coupe and convertible and turbocharged V8 powered by an E63 AMG S for sedans and wagons only. With its varying models, the E400 has a turbocharged 3.0 litre engine producing a horsepower of 329 and 354 lb-ft of torque. The E550 is an upgraded version offering 4.7 litre V8 with 402 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. Most of the trim levels offer a rear or all-four wheel drive with the exception of the Coupe and Convertible which only have rear wheel drive. On the other hand the E350 wagon and E63 AMG S models offer 4matic only. The cars employ a 7 speed auto-transmission system with the exception of the E63. This one has a multiple clutch pack instead of a torque converter that assures enhanced response and control in terms of performance. Both styles offer shift paddles, an automatic start-stop function which helps in fuel conservation when the engine is at rest. In terms of acceleration, E-series performs significantly well with the best being E550 that goes from zero to sixty at a mere 5 – 6 seconds. The fuel economy has been quite varied as per tests performed with an average estimate of 31 mpg combining city and highway. For the E550, it is 21 mpg.

The 2016 Mercedes Benz E-class has been often compared to its rival counterparts like the Audi A6. While it may not entirely outperform its rival, it can definitely boast of an exceptionally absorbent suspension. Overall performance is quite refined with very little vibration felt through the pedals while the car is idling. Additionally the E250 model is rated to be the slowest but cheapest and most fuel-efficient E-Class.
